RP Ideas for your character.

Okay, I'm pirating this idea from the Vanguardia forums to try and prevent what happened when I wrote Kai's background into the Algier's capers and messed with Stash's ideas a bit more than I thought.

The idea behind this thread is for folks to post things they might like to see about their characters in the stories being written or ask if ideas they have for other folks characters fit into their stories.

To start things off, I'm envisioning a scene where Stash drags Kai on up to Glastonbury at some point to teach him that, it's not really a part of England, so it's alright to be loyal to it. This would be before he sets out for Asia, but obviously after Stash signs him on. Kaichee being the loyal guy he is, eventually is convinced to carve his name in the stone. If it fits in cool, if not that's fine too, I was just thinking otherwise Kai may never have been to Glastonbury and it would be kinda cool to have him have visited at least once. I don't think I can stretch the timeline enough to have him sail up to England to carve his name before sailing for the Caribbean from China.

Might be a good time for him to meet Mildred, whose family has been settled in Glastonbury since that errant friar joined the militia so long ago. I'm thinking they have a farm thereabouts, and need to take their wares down the channel for shipping every so often...which may be the origin of her interest in sailing.

Confrontational as she may seem, it's very hard for Mildred to actually hate...and the longer you've known her, the more glaringly obvious this becomes. In a fight, she's likely to cross the line of reason, and then end up patching her opponents afterwards. She claims to be pious, even patriotic, but at the end of the day her main concern isn't for the Church or the ideal of Glastonbury itself, but for the people she considers her friends (though she avoids the use of that word like the plague).

Mildred's first mate is an elf who's been shadowing the family for many hundreds of years, for reasons largely unknown. Since the prospect of this being true is pretty ridiculous in most circles, any rumors to the truth are quickly squashed. She has a fairly developed personality of her own, but since she's not the main character in this case, pretty much anything goes.

Ok here it goes. First off, I am adding Hellion's guy to most, if not all my stories. Mostly because he'll never write anthing himself, and he makes a good counter to Stash. Personality wise I've been seeing Gabriel/Hellion as a fairly straight up guy, levelheaded, and wary of anything that Stash has a hand in. But still goes along with pretty much anything Stash comes up with.

Stash on the other hand, is a typical trickster. He'd rather talk his way out of a fight than fight, but can fight when his back is against the wall. He's secretly a English Intellance agent, and works for Duke Charles FitzRoy, gathering information on Spanish and French plots, and doing what he can to further Englands intrests. He spent the last ten years as a Barbary Corsair, under Dey Ali Chauch of Algiers. Using what gold he looting by his piracy to buy, and free english that had been sold into slavery. Most of who served as sailors on his ship, the rest smuggled back to their families in England thru his contacts with Fitzroy. The Algiers caper, although it was to rescue Fitzroy's nephew and his family, had the double mission to get Stash in the good will of the Dey, and set him up as a confidant. Something compleatly unkown to the rest of the Glastons, who were almost captured in the process, and to a degree believe Stash abandonded them to become a corsair.

Stash basic primal want is freedom. Being a Pirate gives him that freedom, no matter that he is actually working for England. How he does things is up to him, and not dictated. That coupled with an alarming curiousty, give Stash all the adventure for three lifetimes.

Here's a question. How closely guarded a secret is his working for England? How many of the Glaston's know? Hellion, of course anyone else? We all know we're the Glastonbury Privateers, do we know who for? I'm basically working it as Kai came to terms with his lust for revenge and his hatred for the English while serving under the very man whose son he was named for in the Orient. He bears no love for England these days, but he doesn't wish more ill on them then they deserve through their own actions. As opposed to the actions their government forces them to do.

Just Hellion. Others might suspect, but Hellion needed to know. That would of been the only way Stash would got him to go along.

Good enough! I've been kinda having Kai think of us as Free Privateers working for the people mostly. The true path of Glastonbury and such.

Let's hammer out the first meeting perhaps. I've kinda pictured Kai to be in his 30s, his beard is graying after all.

Sure a Pirate life does tend to age ya, but to do all the things I've said he's done so far he probably woulda had to start early, like most sailors. How long does travel normally take to the orient and back even on a fast ship? I'm perfectly alright with Kai being your mid and such at some point. Maybe you were the captain that stole him out of the pressgang's men or something. Hellion doesn't need to be there and I can easily fit Dis into the groggy meeting.

Revisionist History can be fun too.

Being an RP attempter, it is easier for me to play a foil or fallguy, where I have just one or two Schticts. (sp?) Berm (CoH) was probably one of my most fun characters, Milly will probably wince at the thought of his singing. But he had a song for about every occasion, was easy to get into character, had a back story (somewhere), wasn't connected too much, didn't involve remember where he met whom. Also this was after most of Glastonbury left CoH, so didn't have to connect to a lot of people.

Onto Reynaud. He looks a little like Keanu Reeves, with sand/sun bleeched hair. I am working on a bit of a schtic (sp?) with him also. Thinking more for a bit of airheadedness, him trying to wrap his noggin around ideas but has to work them out outloud. Also works out that he has been nicknamed Wrong Way Rey by others already. *$#(@&! Just cause you go to NEW Orleans....

Any help, suggestions, Ideas, Ect.... Will be usefull. The simpler the better, though. =P

I see Dismas as having met Stash while Stash was an officer or middie in the navy, where, through his action or inaction, Stash saved Dis' life . . something involving a girl, mebbe the new wife of a fresh young ensign, who happened to be well connected.Dis was just a basic seaman, with little promise to rise . . too rough, not bright, too likely to drink and wench rather than fulfill a duty.

So Dis ends up out of the navy, and in Glastonbury, with a strong loyalty to stash, then the algiers caper comes along, and in the fallout of that, Dis becomes a pirate, to end up in the carribean where he meets up with Stash once again.

Do what you want with him, just never make him very noble, and never let any man who cuts him live . . women, on the other hand, tend to slice him freely, and he takes it, cause he really likes women, all of them, even the ones that hate him.

Good stuff on the Algier's caper Stash! You think the meeting I wrote, still works with that story line? I'm still thinking Kai didn't make it back to England after it, though. Especially with the line "If you're English, Down." Remember, Kai's Irish and the only English he's loyal to are the ones that have become his mates. At that point there was still too much hate for the rest to admit he was. Though his leg wound probably made him stumble enough to not get shot. The only way he'd have gotten on the Abbingdon, would be if Hellion had drug him kicking. I dunno, I have some thoughts I'll try to put into words in a bit. I'll rewrite Kai's part in the aftermath of the Algiers Caper and the meeting if ye like.

Well I left it as open as I could, giving both you and Dis ways to add on both before and after Algiers. The ship probably didn't go directly to England either, they typical made stops along the way, probably in Gibralter or another port. Indiamen were the passenger liners of their day as well as cargo haulers.

As for kicking and screaming, take into account how a wounded man sees things and does things. Culhan had Kai over his shoulder and was leading the way, Kai probably wasn't even aware of where excatly they were going, just that they were getting out and to safety.

Arr! Good point. I can work with that. I'll keep the meeting as in then unless you have strong objections to it, and re-write the aftermath.
